The Birth of Hen and Moon
I believe that "Necessity if the Mother of Invention". My Hen & Moon Journey began when my youngest son battled eczema as an infant. I can remember having to keep baby mitts on his little hands, otherwise, he would find ways to scratch his itchy-dry skin until it bled. I had recommendations for medications and treatments that seemed more detrimental than good for him, and I felt powerless. One day, a miracle took place. I was teaching a continuing education class for nurses and commented that I wanted to learn how to make natural soaps and salves to help my son. A retired nurse taking my class raised her hands and told me she could teach my all I needed to know in a weekend. I accepted her offer and spent the weekend with her. I walked away with several trays of homemade soaps I had learned to make that needed to cure for 30 days. I went on to take herbal classes and build my own medicine cabinet. As time progressed, my son's issues began to resolve to the beautiful skin he enjoys today.
My love for medicine inspired me to begin a company "Metamorphosis Holistic and Integrative Therapies". I wanted to bring comfort to patients with chronic pain, on hospice services, and with dementia. As a hospice nurse, I would create products that I would get permission to use in my patients care. I would formulate products for family and friends that were specific to their needs, just by compiling their symptoms and concerns. I was constantly learning and growing. One day I was working as a Nurse Practitioner Hospitalist and my boss asked me to talk to the C.E.O. of a hospice that I was working with. This would be my first big break! The physician shared my holistic interest with the C.E.O. of the hospice I currently worked for. It was as if we discovered each other for the first time! A nurse practitioner I worked with, Deb Lyne, gifted my first product label printer, and it was history. I began making aromatherapy products for their patients and continued to grow in my knowledge and confidence that I could help others. 2 years later, the second big break came for me. I was blessed to meet and merge with a successful skincare company to expand my products and consulting services. Previse Dermal Apothecary became the parent to Metamorphosis, which later transitioned to Hen and Moon. The C.E.O. of Previse, Sean Patrick Harrington, took me under his wing and served as a professional mentor to me and allowed me to grow as the Technical Director.
Fast forward to today. I have been gently nudged out of the Previse nest so that Hen and Moon can do what it does best. This transition of the company allows me to take what I have learned and color my own canvas! I have a platform of opportunity to offer healthful products outside of a healthcare setting and provide those benefits to everyone, in a retail setting.
When we come full circle with this story, my youngest son is 21 years of age. Wanting to bring comfort to my son has blossomed to me wanting to share comfort to others. This journey has been richly seasoned with passion and love for what I do.
